The Wood Duck is one of our most photographed birds - when you can see one. They tend to be rather shy, and the adult males, with their wildly colored plumage and red eyes usually steal the show. This young bird, beginning to show the colors of adulthood, is a much more subtle image. Calm, yet with a bit of a sassy look, this cute duck embodied that in between stage, and created a perfect subject that is often overlooked.
