Education:
Aleta Steward began studying art while still in high school, and sold
her first painting at 16. After graduation, she moved back to New York
and attended the Art Students League in NYC. (Founded in 1875,
the Art Students League has been instrumental in shaping America's
legacy in the fine arts. Many renowned artists - Georgia O'Keeffe,
Jackson Pollack, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, and Norman
Rockwell among them - have honed their skills at the League. Established
by artists for artists, and continuing to hold to its founding principles,
the League is an atelier school in which the language of art is taught and
developed.)
Ms. Steward continued to broaden her education at the Studios of
New York artist Paul Wood, who emphasized color and form through
abstract art. She then learned to observe and interpret natural subjects
through lessons from California artist Sophie Sheppard.
After moving to Cape cod Massachusetts in 1987, Aleta turned to birds as a new area of specialization. She continued her studies through Mass Audubon, Linda Loring foundation, and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.2019
